ROONEY NOMINATED FOR AWARD

Wayne Rooney has been nominated for FIFA's World Player of the Year award.
The 18-year-old England international is one of four Manchester United stars to be included on the list, with Cristiano Ronaldo, Ryan Giggs and Ruud van Nistelrooy all included.Of the 35 players under consideration for the award Rooney's England team-mates David Beckham, Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard and Michael Owen are also included.Arsenal duo Thierry Henry and Robert Pires are also named with Henry widely tipped to win the overall award.Chelsea's new signing from Marseille, Didier Drogba, and Liverpool's Czech Republic striker Milan Baros are other Premiership stars included.
Former Leicester City midfielder Theo Zagorakis, who helped Greece to their Euro 2004 triumph, has been selected while Raul, Luis Figo, Roberto Carlos, Ronaldo and 2003 winner Zinedine Zidane, complete Real Madrid's contingent.The list has been drawn up by FIFA's Football Committee and the Technical and Development Committee.Voting takes place this month and a short-list of three will be produced in November before the winner is unveiled on December 20
